Embark on an unforgettable day trip from Rabat to discover the ancient treasures of Meknes and Volubilis, two of Morocco’s most significant historical sites.
Meknes: Founded in the 11th century by the Almoravids, Meknes rose to prominence as the capital of Morocco during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismaïl (1672-1727). The city’s heritage reflects both Islamic and European influences, offering a captivating glimpse into Morocco’s royal past.
Volubilis: Located a short distance from Meknes, Volubilis was once the thriving capital of the ancient kingdom of Mauretania and an important Roman city in North Africa. Founded in the 3rd century BC, it is home to remarkable ruins, including well-preserved Roman mosaics, public buildings, and the famous Triumphal Arch. This UNESCO World Heritage site also became the seat of the Idrissides dynasty, adding Islamic history to its Roman legacy. Walk through its ancient streets to witness the lasting splendor of both Roman and Islamic civilizations.
This day trip from Rabat offers a rare opportunity to explore Morocco’s unique blend of cultures and architectural wonders, from the military history of Meknes to the Roman grandeur of Volubilis.
