9:15 AM – Guided Rabat City Tour
The cultural exploration of Rabat starts with a visit to Chellah Necropolis, also known as Sala Colonia. This remarkably preserved site combines ancient Roman ruins with medieval Islamic remains. Located near the Bouregreg River, Chellah is considered the oldest human settlement in the Rabat area. Moreover, its peaceful setting makes it one of the most atmospheric landmarks in the city.
Next, you will continue to the iconic Hassan Tower, the unfinished minaret of what was intended to become the largest mosque in the world. Construction stopped after the death of Sultan Yaakoub Al Mansour, yet the tower remains one of Rabat’s most important symbols.
Just across the esplanade, you will visit the Mohammed V Mausoleum, home to the tombs of King Mohammed V, King Hassan II, and Prince Abdallah. This masterpiece of modern Alaouite architecture stands out with its white marble walls and green tiled roof. A Quran reciter is often present, adding a spiritual atmosphere to the visit.
Afterwards, the tour continues to the Oudaias Kasbah, located at the mouth of the Bouregreg River. Built in the 12th century by the Almohads, this former military fortress feels like a city within a city. In addition, the Kasbah of Oudaias was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012, highlighting its cultural importance.
