IN 1981 Fès El Bali was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name Medina of Fez. Along with Fès Jdid (New Fez) and the European style town (Ville nouvelle in French) the Medina of Fez is one of the main districts of the city. Your morning tour here will take you to the most attractive locations of the Medina of Fez such as the Bou Inania Madrasa (very old koranic school), the Nejjarine Fountain; Attarine Madrasa (another old koranic school), Moulay Idriss II Mausoleum, and the famous Qarawiyyin Mosque (outside visit). The exploration will start at the monumental gate of Bab Boujlloud. The first monument to visit is the stunning Madrasa Bou Inania. This old school was built in 1350 and is considered as a high point of Moroccan Marinid architecture. Then will continue to the Tijani Zaouïa which is an old Islamic building for education and commemoration. Then head to the instrument makers’ Souk before arriving at the Mzara of the ancient sovereign Moulay Idriss situated at the place where he took the decision to build the town. After having enough time to take photos, your guide will take you to En-Nejjarine Square and the cabinet makers’ Souk. Discover the breathtaking Foundouk on the squareh, this foundouk houses today the Wooden Arts and Crafts Museum. Not far from it, you will find the most visited and revered site in Fez: The Moulay Idriss Zaouïa.
